A Great Mother-Daughter Event Idea

IMG_4267We’ve all heard of the father-daughter dances, the mother-son camping trips, and the father-son fishing outings. But what about events for the moms and daughters? I was invited to perform at one this past Sunday and I’d like to share the idea with you. It comes from my friend Alan Phillips over at Richmond Community Church in Glen Allen, VA.

The event is called “Pajamarama.” The idea is simple. Moms and daughters have an evening to themselves at the church (with the exception of a male staff member or male juggler, like myself, wandering around). They wear their pajamas and enjoy an evening of manicures, a candy bar full of delicious sweets, a cupcake walk, a photo booth, a craft station, and an entertaining show (in this case, a juggler :). Their theme was “Under the Big Top,” so they decorated in an old fashioned circus theme which included a fun balloon design of white and yellow balloons filling a large popcorn box (see the picture below).

From what I observed, the ladies loved it! I did my show and then tried to stay out of the way. My wife and daughter attended, so I couldn’t help but participate in the cupcake walk with them. But for the most part, I let all the ladies have the night to themselves.

Side note: the architecture of Richmond Community Church is a stunning modern design by debartolo architects and has received multiple mentions in Architectural Digest. I have visited hundreds (possibly thousands) of churches around the country and have never seen a sleek modernistic design like this one. It is very simple, solid, beautiful, and full of light. Check out a write up about the building from this blog about modern architecture.

Here are some pics from the evening, thanks to the RCC facebook page.
