Goal-Setting Hebrews Style

“These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.  God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” (Hebrews 11:40).

Wow – talk about legacy.  I plan such measly goals in my life, thinking that I should take life one day at a time and just do my best from day to day.  If I make goals, then I think they have to be realistic so I don’t let myself down.  Then there’s this passage in Hebrews.  These people never saw what they were promised.  Think about that.  Their divine callings fell short if you look at those callings from the perspective of only each individual life.  But if you look at what happened after they died, God was faithful and carried through on His promises.  God’s plan is that together with all the saints (throughout history) we will be made perfect.  God’s goal for our lives is better than we could ever ask, dream, or imagine.  And He will accomplish and deliver using future generations (whom I will never meet on this side of heaven).
